"The stars like dust..."
Just as extensive were the writings of the great author

Isaac Asimov

1992 a great man left earthlife leaving a huge literary treasure behind for all of us to read and be amazed by. We all realize reading his novels and shortstories what a clear vision this remarkable man had. This site is dedicated to the man and his writing, both leaving a permanent impression that will remain for generations to come and affecting our every day life.
About the Man...

Few writers have meant so much to so many. Never before has one so totally influenced an entire genre. Thanks to him and a few other authors science fiction has stepped up from being just cheap and "unmeaning" literature of the kind you buy off the rack in your local convenience store to being both accepted and appreciated by the "establishment", even though it is not yet considered to be completely "house-broken", and to being a fountain of inspiration for scientists and philosophers.

In his suite of novels about the Foundation in a way he reflected the international politics by the time of world war two and until modern day at the same time as it is based on historical parallells with the rise and fall of the roman empire. He even took a step further in showing us a direction maybe we all should go towards meeting the future.

In the giant suite of novels that actually begins with "I, robot" and ends with "Foundation and Earth " he also warned us of our almost fanatic faith in technology. Often he used his books to show us a possible solution to a problem in our time, but applied both problem and sollution to a future environment to make it easier for us to actually see the sollution.

This magnificent writer, Isaac Asimov, was published for the first time in 1939 ("Marooned off Vesta" in Amazing Stories) and was until the time of his death active. Besides science fiction he also wrote youth books under the name Paul French and all sorts of professional literature and fiction. Some titles have constantly been in print, for instance the original "Foundation" trilogy, and other titles are reprinted every now and then.

Then, who was this remarkable man, Isaac Asimov? What has he written, how can we take it all in and how does it affect us in our daily life?

The man, the myth...

Isaac Asimov was born January 2nd 1920 in Russia by Anna Rachel Asimov, wife of Judah Asimov. At the age of three he and his parents emigrated to U.S.A. and in 1928 he became an American citizen. 1942 he married Gertrude Blugerman. Together they had two children, the son David and the daughter Robyn. Later they were divorced and in 1973 he remarried Janet Opal Jeppson, a psychiatrist who eventually became a science fiction writer too.

Isaac made sure to get a proper education at the University of Columbia, where he became a PhD with chemistry as his major subject 1948, after a break in his studies to do military services, mostly spent at US Naval Air Experiment Station together with among others L. Sprague de Camp and Robert A. Heinlein. These two are now among the giants of the science fiction genre as well. 1949 he obtained a professorship in biochemistry at the Boston University School of Medicine, a position he had until 1958, when he left to become a full time author. The title he kept until the time of his demise April 6th 1992.

The authorship of Isaac have been very comprehensive. Besides science fiction he has written a number of other fiction novels and, as well as professional literature and youth books, the later under the psuedonym Paul French. In addition to the novels he wrote a great number of shortstories, out of which some have been compiled to novels.

The Author Isaac Asimov

The most productive scientific writer, Isaac Asimov, has written some of the most well-knowned science fiction books ever published. Without unnecessary involving the characters in action-filled adventures Asimov usually set up and solved puzzles and problems that educated the reader in science and technology. If you claim that he was an "artist", the conflict between his generally optimistic and impartial tone and the intrigue and the concept of his books can become annoying. For a superior autodidact professional, who has amused and entertained millions of readers more than 40 years, it could just as well been the key to his success.
